Tybee!

    Despite recent great white shark sightings we went to Tybee Island today!  The only shark I saw was the giant fake one along the side of the road when you enter town!  Being safe though we stayed close to shore which was fine with all because the water was cold!

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Fun day in the sun!

Lazy day in Savannah

     We took a road trip about an hour South to my favorite city, Savannah.  I love wandering under the huge oaks full of moss in Forsythe Park and listening to a lone trumpeter playing his songs for anyone who will listen.  It's a beautiful city and one that we haven't even begun to explore since we moved here four years ago. 

     We spent the early afternoon at the park, shared a picnic under the trees as the kids laughed at the park squirrels who sat observing us.

...and eventually ended up at our destination, the playground.  The kids scrambled through the gate to find new friends to run amok with in the afternoon sun while Mr. Frazier and I settled ourselves at a picnic table to take it all in.

They are so alike and so different.  It's such a blessing to watch them grow up.

Headbands!

I found a tutorial on kids and adult headbands over at Happy Together!.  I had tons of fabric scraps and have been wanting to make some...last night was the night!  I whipped up these little dandies!

 

Madison even took my pic while I was working AND when she was SUPPOSED to be in bed!

Hatchling!

My husband and I made an incubator out of a Styrofoam cooler, a lightbulb and some hardware cloth..oh, about 25 days ago.  We loaded it with about 15 eggs from the hens.  The kids and I made a little science project out of keeping track of the temperature and humidity. 

Yesterday, Madi came out of the music room and said "I heard a chicken!".  Sure enough, we had a peeping egg in the incubator! A few hours later, we saw this...

 

One tiny little crack...and a whole lot of peeping!

 

I woke up this morning and found this...

He has since been moved to our makeshift warmer.  What a cutie!

 

 

I candled the other eggs yesterday.  Sadly I think this will be our only hatch from these eggs.

Not too bad though for a diy incubator!

Applejack? Fluttershy? Peep?

 

This is our chick.  I call him Peep.  Madison has renamed him several times. 

 

He hatched in the house under a warming light.  I tried several times to take him out to his "mother", but she wouldn't care for him.  So he has spent the last two weeks in my craft room, under a warming light, being carefully watched over by these two.

 

Yesterday, due to his noise level and odor control, he joined the rest of the flock in the coop.  I peeped in on him late last night, expecting to find him in the corner alone, but was pleasantly surprised.   I looked around the coop and then over at Henny Penny.  There popped a little sweet head out from her tail feathers.  :)

Pool fun on the deck...

Our dastardly dogs ate our yard pool over the winter.  This year I decided against getting another and instead bought season passes for Splash in the Boro.   My idea is that it would force me to get out of the house and it would give the kids some social time with friends their own ages.  Now, if I could only find a swimsuit.....

Indeed, we do have season passes, but I still needed a little place to keep the littlest of us cool and just a little spot where everyone could cool off for the day..hence, the triple pools on my deck!

One for the "bigs", one for the "mediums" and one for the "little".  Now the little tried to get into the bigs pool but that didn't go so well.  So under my watchful eye he stays in the little or medium pool.

 

There is fun to be had by all.  We even hooked up a little caterpillar sprinkler to beat the heat. 

 

Don't they look like they should be in a shampoo commercial?  Lol!

Best of all, when the day is done, they get drained and tucked away....until it's time for more pool fun!

Sam's spelling test

Sam had to take a spelling test today.  One of his words was "shirt".  This is what I got.
